9 Second Chip Fix FAQ's

  • Chip Repair FAQs
  • 1. How much damage can MagicEzy 9 Second Chip Fix repair?

Apply in layers no thicker than 6mm (1/4 inch). Allow 2 hours drying time in between each layer.

  • 2. What color matches my boat?

There are many different color boats available and although your boat may originally have been a certain model and color finish, many things affect this over time such as age, fading etc. It is best to match the existing color of your boat to our color chart.

  • 3. What do I need to blend your colors to make a custom match for my boat

We have found it easy to mix the colors together on a plastic lid using the level end of the tube. When you have achieved the desired color, apply the product with the end of the tube. Or mix enough of each color in some transparent sandwich / plastic wrap then place next to the damage to match the color.

  • 4. Can I use other tints to make a custom match color?

No. Mixing additional products compromises the adhesion and effectiveness of MagicEzy products. We do not guarantee any products that have been mixed with other additives. However, two of our products can be mixed together to achieve an appropriate color match. See Colour Chart

  • 5. Can I mix 9 Second Chip Fix and Hairline Crack Fix together?

Ideally, we recommend two or more colors of the same product be mixed together. Whilst the products are compatible with each other, mixing different consistencies may achieve a different finished repair.

  • 6. How do I repair a vertical surface?

When repairing a non-horizontal surface, most fillers sag. To prevent, simply apply MagicEzy 9 Second Chip Fix using the instructions then after the 2nd LEVEL, blow a hot hairdryer on the repair for 2 minutes. A skin has now formed and the product won’t slump.

  • 7. How long does it take to dry?

Dry time is temperature dependent however these are the guides for 70ºF. If application is in a lower temperature use a hairdryer to achieve proper cure.

    • Touch dry: 1 hour
    • Cured: 2 hours
    • Fully cured: Up to 14 days
  • 8. Why doesn't it dry instantly

With products that dry in seconds, it is difficult to create a silky-smooth repair. It’s also difficult to remove smears. 9 Second Chip Fix is easy to apply and the unique drying process maximises the strength and durability of the repair.

  • 9. Cold Weather Drying

Temperatures below 20oC – 70oF require drying by a hot hair dryer on the surfaces at 2 inches or 50mm for 2 minutes.

  • 10. How can I achieve a gloss finish?

Even though MagicEzy 9 Second Chip Fix has a matte finish, you can achieve a gloss look. Simply apply a piece of clear adhesive tape over the repair and leave for a few weeks until fully cured. This compresses the repair and creates a smooth, glossy finish. Or – coat with MagicEzy Hairline Fix which has an even better gloss finish.

  • 11. How can I achieve a smooth repair?

Obviously each repair that is carried out is up to the skill and patience of each person doing it – some people will have better results than others.

MagicEzy 9 Second Chip Fix is a matte finish – when doing repairs, squeeze an amount into the damage that is not overfilling the chip, but more so almost the closest amount required to fill with minimal spread outside of the area as there is less to clean up and the temptation to over wipe the area results in a less smooth repair.

Take your time, fill as close as possible with the amount needed and wipe gently with the end of the tube to get as level as possible. Don’t be tempted to keep touching it up, let the repair dry and finish with Hairline Fix if you are wanting a gloss finish.

  • 12. Can I sand the product once it is dry?

Yes. Please allow 7 days for the product to fully cure before sanding.

  • 13. Can I paint over the product?

    Yes, with water-based paints.
